Program Information

The Dental Assisting Program prepares the student to function effectively as an integral member of the dental health team and to perform chair side assisting and related office and laboratory procedures under the direction and supervision of a dentist. Upon completion of the program and obtaining national certification students are eligible for employment in private practice, education institutions and federal and state institutions. The curriculum includes content areas in general studies, biomedical sciences, dental sciences, clinical sciences, radiography, and clinical experience. Students must achieve a minimum grade of “C” in each Dental Assisting (DAS) course, Dental Assisting/Hygiene (DAH) course, and approved science courses. Upon completion of the program, students are eligible to take the Dental Assisting National Board Examination to become a Certified Dental Assistant. Also available, if criteria is successfully met the student will be awarded certificates in the following areas: Radiology and Expanded Functions from BCTC. Coronal Polishing certificates awarded by the Kentucky Board of Dentistry if state requirements are met.

The Dental Assisting Program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation, a specialized accrediting agency of the American Dental Association. See program checklists for more information.
