BCTC to Hold Commencement Exercises on May 6

Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) will hold its 2012 commencement exercises at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 6 at the Kentucky Horse Park Alltech Arena located at 4089 Iron Works Parkway in Lexington. The ceremony will honor approximately 2,125 students who are receiving degrees, diplomas or certificates for the 2011-12 academic school year. BCTC President Dr. Augusta A. Julian will preside over the commencement of graduates.

BCTC will also recognize graduates at two new events this year:

  • The Exceptional Black Graduates Recognition Program will be held Thursday, May 3 at 6:30 p.m. at BCTC’s Cooper campus, 470 Cooper Drive in Lexington. This program honors the academic achievements of African American students.
  • The Graduate Achievement Recognition Reception will be held Sunday, May 6 at 2:30 p.m. at the north exhibit hall at the Kentucky Horse Park Alltech Arena. At the reception, BCTC’s outstanding program graduates will be recognized for exhibiting strong leadership, exceeding criteria and expectations in their degree programs, and academic excellence.

Mr. Stu Silberman will deliver the commencement address at this year’s graduation. Silberman was the superintendent of the Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) from 2004 to 2011. He currently serves as the Executive Director of the Prichard Committee, a non-profit citizens group established in 1983, that advocates for excellence in education.

This is the first year that BCTC will hold its graduation at the Kentucky Horse Park Alltech Arena. Directions to the arena are located at http://bit.ly/gradlocation. Admission is free and open the public. Free parking is available.
