KCTCS Board of Regents Approves 2014-2015 Budget and Tuition

Somerset, Ky. (June 13, 2014) – The Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Board of Regents approved a 2014-15 budget of $924,117,500 during its quarterly meeting today at Somerset Community College. The budget includes a 2.08 percent increase in tuition for in-state students.

"KCTCS remains committed to providing Kentuckians with a quality education that is both affordable and convenient," said Peeples. "Our statewide system of 16 colleges and more than 70 campuses continues to be the best postsecondary education value in the state."

The board approved an increase in in-state tuition rates for the 2014-15 and 2015-16 academic years. For 2014-15 the tuition rate will increase from $144 per credit hour to $147. Out-of-state tuition rates approved include a $294 per credit hour rate for out-of-state students from counties contiguous to Kentucky and $515 for all other out-of-state students. Tuition rates for the 2015–16 academic year will be $150 per credit hour for in-state students, $300 for students from contiguous counties and $525 for all other out-of-state students.

The approved tuition rates are consistent with the parameters established by the Council on Postsecondary Education. These parameters include an in-state tuition rate increase of three dollars for in-state students and out-of-state students from contiguous counties, and out-of-state rates of at least double in-state rates.

The board also approved a one percent salary increase that will apply to each regular full-time KCTCS faculty/staff member who has met or exceeded their job requirements on their 2013-14 performance evaluations. This increase will be funded using existing funding bases.

"I applaud President McCall and his team for their outstanding fiscal management that allows us to compensate faculty and staff for their dedication and untiring efforts in serving our students, we only wish we could have done more," said KCTCS Board of Regents Chair P.G. Peeples.

Additionally, the board moved forward on the KCTCS presidential search process by approving a profile that outlines the desired characteristics of the KCTCS president. Current and founding KCTCS President Michael B. McCall announced in November his plan to retire January 15, 2015. The profile will be posted on June 17 at kctcspresident.com.

In other business, the board:

  • Approved or ratified 33 certificates.
  • Approved 17,280 academic credential requests (certificates, diplomas or associate degrees) between January 17, 2014 and April 14, 2014.

The credentials include:

  • 10,249 candidates for certificates,
  • 1,388 candidates for diplomas, and
  • 5,643 candidates for associate degrees.

The next meeting of the KCTCS Board of Regents will be September 18-19, 2014 at Henderson Community College.
