Central Kentuckians can have their names on a beautiful brick path leading to the future Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) Administration Building on the Newtown Campus. A fundraising campaign began Nov. 4 with Lexington Mayor Jim Gray purchasing the first personalized brick for the path. Money raised through brick sales will be used to fund scholarships and a variety of campus development projects.
“With these bricks, BCTC is building a brighter future for hundreds of citizens and the Bluegrass region,” Mayor Jim Gray said.
There are two sizes of personalized bricks for purchase. The smaller brick, which is 4x8, is $150, and the larger one, which is 8x8, is $350.
“We want everyone to see the beautiful site that is well on the way to becoming the Newtown Campus,” Dr. Augusta Julian, BCTC president, said. “This learning-centered redevelopment will bring benefits for the entire region. For a small investment, everyone can participate.”
Students began attending classes on the Newtown campus in August. It is home to several programs, including, Film Studies: Script to Screen, Information Management and Design, Medical Information Technology, Office Systems Technology, Health Information Technology, Real Estate and a wide variety of courses for transfer. Programs in Computer Information Technology will be added for the spring semester.
Additional construction is needed over the next few years for the former Eastern State Hospital site to become a vibrant BCTC Campus.
