JCTC’s Quick Recall Team’s performance at regional tournament secures a spot at nationals

Jan 29, 2013 - Feb 15, 2013

Jefferson’s Quick Recall Team decided to take a different approach this year, which proved to be highly successful at the Kentucky Sectional, securing a first and second place finish.

“We took a chance and broke up our best players into an “A” and a “B” team at the regional level to try to qualify two teams for the national competition. And our mission was accomplished” said Coach Pete Rodski.

Sixty-One community college teams competed at the regional level on Jan 26.  After several highly competitive matches, Jefferson’s “B” team finished first and “A” team finished second. The most notable victory came from defeating two teams from Illinois, Lincoln Land and Rend Lake. Their sharp performance at the regional level secured spots for both teams to compete at the national competition.

“I was mildly surprised the “B” team beat the “A” team, however it was really close and came down to the last few questions” Rodski noted.  “I will be putting my best players back together on the “A” team for nationals. This should be a top five team.”

Jefferson also had 3 of the top 5 individual scorers at the regional tournament.  Scott Zweydorff, on the “A” team, led the region with 96 points per game and currently ranks second on the national level. Eric Bradley, on the “B” team, was third regionally with 43.8 points per game. Scott Stallings, also on the “B” team, had 40.7 points per game and finished fourth in individual scoring. Also competing and scoring were JCTC students Marion Eicholtz, Chandler Pennington, Chelsey Snyder, Robert Marcum, Steven Wallace, and Elisha Eberhardt. Both teams are coached by Pete Rodski and Amy Sprinkle.

“All team members scored at some point during the day and I couldn’t be happier to see everyone contributing” said Rodski.

The top 24 teams overall from around the country will compete for the championship title at the Community College Championship in St. Louis in March. On the national level, Jefferson’s “B” team currently ranks seventh and the “A” team ranks ninth.
