Performing Arts, Theatre, and Chorus

BCTC Chorale

The BCTC chorale is open to all students interested in vocal performance with an ensemble. Students are not required to audition for the chorale or have instructor consent to register for the class. MUC 174, University Chorale is a one credit hour course.

  • The chorale performs a formal concert each semester and does several other performances at the college and in the community throughout each semester.
  • The BCTC Chorale has performed the National Anthem for the Lexington Legends.
  • The college also offers Theory for Non-music Majors, MUS 174 for students wanting an introduction to the basic materials of musical organization.

BCTC Theater Department

The Theater Arts Program at BCTC offers fundamental and real world application in the performing arts. Students receive first rate, hands-on-experience in mounting fully realized theatrical productions. The theater stages one show per semester and offers summer opportunities for students as well. In addition to the college’s own productions, the college has successfully partnered with UK Theater and Studio Players. Opportunities exist for students interested in performance or in production techniques.

  • TA 226, Acting II: Scene Study (Realism)
  • TA 260, Stagecraft

The University of Kentucky Marching Band

Students enrolled at BCTC have the opportunity to participate in the UK Marching Band. Upon a successful audition and UK instructor approval, students are accepted and prepare for UK’s marching season. MUC 190, Marching Band is offered only during the fall semester. Students participating in the marching band pay BCTC’s tuition costs and receive credit at BCTC.

The University of Kentucky Concert Band

Students enrolled at BCTC have the opportunity to participate in UK’s concert band, the newest large ensemble at UK. The concert band is primarily for the general student, both music and non- music majors, desiring the continuation of instrumental music experience. Consent of the instructor is required for BCTC students to register for MUC 187. Students pay BCTC’s tuition cost and receive credit at BCTC.
