First Year Experience Orientation

Congratulations on being admitted to BCTC as a first-time freshman! Please see information below concerning mandatory freshman orientation and scheduling classes – note that orientation and scheduling classes are separate. You must therefore schedule both an orientation and an advising appointment!

If you are interested in attending a session at a regional campus in Danville, Lawrenceburg, or Winchester, please visit our Regional Campus Orientation page.

Freshmen orientations for Fall 2016 will be held in June and July. Parents are encouraged to attend orientation as well, as we will offer a separate orientation program for parents alongside the student orientation. Due to space limitations, parents will be unable to attend the student orientation.

All Fall 2016 Lexington orientation sessions will be held on BCTC’s Cooper campus and check in will be in the Oswald Building. Please note that if you do not have test scores on file (COMPASS, ACT, KYOTE, SAT) or you do not meet the minimum required scores, then the Advising Office will contact you with information about testing.  Be sure to submit a final high school transcript with graduation date to our Office of Admissions.

Campus maps and directions can be found here.

Make sure to note the date and time of the orientation and advising appointment that you register for. Students must stay for the entire orientation program.

Step 2: Register For An Advising Appointment

Orientation and scheduling your classes are separate, you will need to schedule your classes for Fall outside of orientation! You have two options for scheduling your classes. Please read carefully the two options below and choose the one which works best for you. Please only select one option.  You may sign up below for each option or you schedule by calling 859-246-6220.

  • Option 1: You can set up an appointment with the Advising & Assessment Office beginning Monday, May 2nd. We have advisors available at several campuses. You will meet with an advisor, discuss your major, and schedule classes. The advantage to this is that you can schedule your classes well before your orientation, and then on your orientation day you can just come enjoy the orientation program.

  • Option 2: Everything in one day! We will have a limited number of appointments available on orientation days for you to meet with an advisor and schedule classes. If you signed up for a morning orientation (starting at 8:30), then the advising appointments will be in the afternoon. If you signed up for an afternoon orientation (starting at 12:30), then the advising appointments will be in the morning.
