Phlebotomy

Bluegrass Community and Technical College offers a Phlebotomy Certificate program, which consists of nine credit hours (two courses) to be completed in one semester.

Certificate Requirements:

PHB100 Phlebotomy Lecture

12 Hours of classroom/laboratory spread over three evenings per week for the first eight week period - 6 Credit Hours

PHB155 Phlebotomy Clinicals

Minimum of 180 Clinical Hours - Days & times will be announced - 3 Credit Hours (PHB 155 will follow the successful completion of PHB100 with a grade of C or higher)

Registration:

Complete BCTC admission requirements (www.bluegrass.kctcs.edu) Please indicate Phlebotomy as your program of interest on your application. After completion, a letter will be sent to you regarding admission status and advising / registration dates.

Please Note:

• You will be required to purchase one Phlebotomy textbook
• Phlebotomy Clinicals are typically arranged for Monday through Friday during daytime hours and scheduled by the healthcare institutions and the instructor
• Uniforms, lab coats, name badge, and white leather shoes are required and will be discussed on the first day of class
• Certificate does not typically qualify for financial aid
• Student must be available to complete 180 clinical hours for PHB155 within an eight week time frame during the same semester as PHB100
• Costs related to travel will be the student's expense
• Reliable and dependable transportation is critical to the students' success
• Clinical sites may be local OR as far awar as 1 1/2 hour drive one way commute. We try to locate clinical sites as close to Lexington as possible
• Mandatory Phlebotomy Orientation Meeting required prior to start of semester - students will be notified
• Excellent attendance throughout the semester is critical to the success of the student
• Phlebotomy Certificate program does require a significant time commitment. Students must be able to attend class/lab for twelve hours in the evening spread across three nights during the first eight week period. Student(s) must be able to commit 180 clinical hours (approximately 24 hours per week during the second eight weeks of the certificate program)
