Classes will begin on Wednesday, August 17, 2011. There is a mandatory orientation on Thursday, August 11th in the Student Center, Building C on the Leestown Campus. The beginning time will be 8:30 a.m. and ending around 1:30 p.m. Non-attendance will constitute an absence. The purpose of this orientation is to handle paperwork specific to the program. You will need the BCTC Radiography Handbook, which may be purchased at the Bookstore located in the Oswald Building and will be available in August. Second year students will provide lunch, this will give everyone an opportunity to meet.
There are many issues relating to health for the Radiography Program—patient health and personal health. To protect both, all students will be required to have health insurance documenting coverage of any clinically acquired injury or illness. You will also need to provide documentation of immunizations. This list was included with your acceptance letter. Please bring two copies of each document to orientation on August 11th. You will not be able to attend clinic until this is complete and turned in
Malpractice Insurance fees will be included with your tuition and will be around $20.00 a year. Don’t be surprised if your tuition bill is slightly higher than you expected.
The uniforms for radiography are:
Uniforms may be purchased at any uniform shop. A nametag must be purchased and most uniform shops can order this for you. Make sure nametag engraving includes your full name along with BCTC Radiography. Make sure your shoes are high quality; you will be spending a lot of time on your feet. Optional uniform attire will be discussed during the orientation
Bring a money order for $36.00 (no personal checks) payable to Jill Meek on August 11 for two sets of lead markers.
The bookstore located on Cooper Campus will carry the necessary textbooks. They will be listed under RADI 100 or 101. A list of textbooks needed for RADI 100 & 101 is included along with the ISBN numbers.

CPR for health care providers is required for RADI 101. Please bring 2 copies of you CPR card to orientation.
The program will require background checks for students enrolled in the Radiography Program. Instructions for this procedure are included with this document.
Several clinic sites require drug testing, if you are assigned to a clinic site that requires drug testing you will be required to complete all required tests.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College now requires background checks for all students enrolling in the Radiography Program. This process is designed to meet requirements for student’s assignment to clinical practice in affiliating healthcare agencies.
Bluegrass Community and Technical College has worked with Verified Credentials, Inc. to establish an acceptable screening procedure at a cost of $43.00. Students who fail to submit a background check prior to the established deadline, August 16, 2010, may not be eligible for clinical placement.

Upon completion the results of the background screening will be sent to you via email and to Bluegrass Community and Technical College. If any information is found that would negatively affect your eligibility for clinical placement in the Radiography Program, you will be given an opportunity to challenge the information through the Adverse Action process associated with Verified Credentials.
