Exam Proctoring

Overview

Proctored exams allow distance learning instructors to have their exams administered in a secure testing facility. Students schedule their exams at a testing center located on a KCTCS campus near them. Instructors place their tests in Blackboard or a similar LMS (e.g. one of Pearson's MyLabs) and place a password on the exam. The passwords and other exam instructions, e.g. use of notes, textbooks, calculators, are placed in a secure data on the Point, the KCTCS Distance Learning Proctor Resource Center to which testing centers have access.

ProctorU

ProctorU is a commercial service that provides secure exam proctoring via webcam.  Students are charged a fee ($25) for a two-hour exam while a proctor observes the student from a remote location.  ProctorU provides students who are unable to attend a KCTCS proctoring center an opportunity to complete their proctored exam.  The use of ProctorU is entirely optional and available only with an instructor's consent.

Faculty who wish to make their exams available through ProctorU should send a completed ADF to the Distance Learning Office.

More information is available in this Faculty Handout.
