The National League for Nursing Pre-Admission Examination (NLN PAX) for registered nursing programs "PAX-RN" is a 3-hour standardized entrance exam for potential nursing students who seek admittance into nursing schools nationwide. The NLN PAX-RN comprises of three main areas: Verbal skills, which consists of both word knowledge and reading comprehension; Mathematics, which includes basic calculations, word problems, and incorporates algebra, geometry, conversions, graphs, and applied mathematics; and Science, which examines general biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science.
BCTC currently uses the “Percentile All Composite” score for selected admissions. (Look under Percentile Scores, then Composite Performance, then All).
Each college sets its own admission standards. The NLN is not involved in this process, nor does the NLN establish a "passing" or "failing" mark on the test. Test results show how your scores compare with those of other applicants who have taken this examination. In making admission decisions, however, schools consider factors other than test results. Contact Cooper Campus nursing advisors to inquire about our admission requirements.
The test is offered most Monday’s at 12 PM at Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Leestown Campus, 164 Opportunity Way, CCD Assessment Center, North Building, Room 110.
You may obtain one free copy of your scores immediately following testing at the Leestown campus. Additional copies may be available for up to three years with correct identifying information. There is a fee of $8 per copy, and you should allow a week for receipt of the scores. The Leestown campus only has access to tests that they administer and NLN does not keep scores indefinitely. If you took your test elsewhere, then you should contact that agency or NLN Customer Service.
Test reports are typically given to you prior to leaving the Assessment Center on Leestown Campus. It is your responsibility to provide a copy of the results with your application packet to BCTC’s nursing program selected admissions staff (effective September 1, 2009). If you are applying at non-BCTC locations, please provide a stamped/addressed envelope on the day of the test, if we need to forward the results. Many locations will accept results directly from you. Please check with each college’s admission requirements prior to testing. Keep a copy for your records.
