Our mission here at BCTC at Operation Read is to provide English as a Second Language classes for non-native English speakers. Our students come to us from all over the world – Congo, Bhutan, Nepal, Spain, Afghanistan, Brazil, Ukraine, Mexico, Syria, Iran, Iraq, etc., but no matter the country of origin, we greet each one as a welcome addition to our classes.
Because some of our students speak and read fluently, but others need more help, we offer small group classes with six levels (pre-literacy to low advanced) of competency, which meet several times throughout the week. Most of our classes meet during the morning hours, Monday through Thursday, and all currently meet at the Carnegie Center. In order to determine the best class for a student, testing of both listening and reading skills is required prior to registration.
If you or someone you know would like to enroll in one of our ESL classes, please come to our office in the basement of the Carnegie Center, 251 West 2nd Street, any Tuesday or Thursday (except for holidays) at 9:30 a.m. for testing and registration. We do provide parking through the Carnegie Center and Transylvania University and are only a short walk from the Transit Center (bus passes are available for our students).
If you have any questions or would like more information, please call (859) 254-9964. There’s no better time than today. We look forward to hearing from you!
