New Transfer Students

New Transfer: a new transfer student is a student who has attended an accredited College/University and is transferring those earned credits.

Once you have been fully admitted and received your admissions letter, you may schedule your advising and testing (if needed) appointments online! Please refer to the link provided in your admissions letter to schedule.

As a New Transfer student, you must have an advising appointment with an academic advisor before enrolling into classes. Make sure your official transcript has been sent to BCTC and also bring a copy of it with you to your advising appointment, (it’s possible you may need to COMPASS test, please see below to help determine if you need testing).

Note: If you need to COMPASS test please make sure you schedule your testing before your advising and if you have recently taken the ACT or COMPASS please bring an official copy of those scores with you to your advising appointment.

To have coursework re-evaluated as a general education course or to establish a direct equivalency with a BCTC course please visit our Transfer Information page.

Testing appointments are for students who:

  • Have never taken the ACT/SAT, or have taken the ACT/SAT more than 3 years ago
  • Have taken the ACT but scored lower than: 20 in Reading, 18 in English/Writing, and 19 in Math
  • Have not completed college credits or transitional courses for Math, English or Reading.

Please come prepared for your appointments!

Before your appointments please visit the admissions guidelines page to ensure you have completed all necessary steps!

Please refer to our checklist for newly admitted students.

In addition to the admission guidelines above please prepare for your advising appointment by doing the following if necessary:

  • Submit official transcripts from the previous college/university. Bring a copy of the transcripts to your advising session.
  • If you have not completed 12 hours of college coursework including a college-level writing and college-level math course, submit recent (less than 3 years old) ACT, SAT or COMPASS scores.
  • If you are transferring from another KCTCS College, clear all financial or other school related HOLDS. Though you can be academically advised, you will not be able to register for classes until those holds are cleared.

*Please Note: If your ACT/SAT/COMPASS scores are more than 3 years old and/or you have not completed college level or transitional courses, especially in Writing and Math, you will be required to take the COMPASS Placement exam in order to advise you appropriately. The COMPASS test must be completed prior to your advising session.
