Filmmaking Certificate Program: Script to Screen

About the Program

The Filmmaking Certificate Program at BCTC offers a unique opportunity to work with industry professionals in a master class setting. This is a one-semester, 16 credit hour, full-time program geared for emerging filmmakers at all levels of experience. The program provides a hands-on overview of all the disciplines of filmmaking, from script to screen. Working directly with industry professionals from New York, Hollywood and the Midwest, students will create a number of short pieces during the semester. Please see the attached poster for details.

The Filmmaking Certificate Program is also an excellent opportunity to explore and enhance your communicating and learning style as well as your media literacy. In the filmmaking process, you will explore linguistic, visual, aural, graphical, logistical and musical learning and communicating techniques.

Current students, undecided majors, emerging and practicing professionals and anyone interested in increasing their communication skills are urged to consider this program.

The BCTC Filmmaking Certificate Program, along with the Kentucky Film Lab (KFL) is proud to be part of the rising tide of Film, Television and VideoGame production in Kentucky. BCTC's visiting artists and KFL have helped place our graduates in active productions all over Kentucky

"Pleased to Meet Me," directed by Archie Borders and starring John Doe, Aimee Mann, and Loudon Wainwright III has concluded production and is in post.
"Hitting the Cycle" is an award-winner and nearing distribution.
"Mortified" is in post prior to the Fright Night Festival
"Split" is in post production.
"2nd Serve" is in distribution.

KFL is collaborating with game developer Jason Shankel (SPORE) to bring Video Game Education to Kentucky and is gearing up for the next IdeaFestival.

Currently, the Kentucky Film Office is assisting with more than 20 feature films that are in various stages of production and a total of 53 active projects.

Some of the highlights include:

“World War I” –The production will begin this spring for this World War I feature. The release will coincide with the 100th anniversary of the start of World War I next year;
“Knob Creek” – Leftfield Productions has completed principal filming in Kentucky on a 10-part TV series and will air this spring.
Transcendent Productions from Kentucky has held a first round of auditions for a political thriller.
Kentucky based Showhouse Productions is working on three features and one documentary that will be complete in 2013 and 2014.
“Farming in the Black Patch” – A Michael Breeding Media production, this documentary is airing on Kentucky Educational Television.
Marvo Entertainment Group is working on three projects for their “Heroes of the Conservation” series.
Two major studios are in preproduction for two types of auto racing TV shows.
Accordatura Productions will shoot an action/drama this spring;
“Split” -- Gill Holland has completed shooting for his production, written and directed by another Kentuckian, Jamie Buckner, based on the sport of bowling;
“The Choir” – British based Shed Media has completed shooting this production in northern Kentucky. The total investment is still to be determined; and
Kentucky Wildcat Basketball” – Turner Sports is producing a documentary to run during the NCAA Tournament.

In addition, several television productions are shooting in Kentucky. They include:

Jeopardy – filming a clue segment;
“Ride-iculous” – High Noon TV – shot a segment, to run on the Travel Channel, based on the Louisville Mega Cavern, the only underground zip line in the world; and
TruTV – filmed a segment in Corbin titled “Kentucky Fried Auction.”
“Ghost Hunters” produced a segment onboard the “Belle of Louisville” paddle wheeler.
