Brent received a B.S. degree in Chemistry from Morehead State University and an M.S. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville, and a Ph.D. in higher education from the University of Kentucky. He worked as a forensic chemist for the Kentucky State Police. Brent began teaching chemistry at Southeast Community College in 1993 before transferring to Bluegrass Community and Technical College in 1996.

Tracy earned a B.A. in chemistry from the University of Tennessee and a M.S. in environmental science from Indiana University at Bloomington. She worked as an environmental analytical chemist at Oak Ridge National Lab. She has also taught and worked at the Indiana University School of Public and Environmental Affairs. Tracy began teaching chemistry and environmental science at Bluegrass Community and Technical College in 2000.
