Associate Degree Nursing Program Course Description

NRN 115 Nursing I

Nursing IIntroduces nursing and the nursing process as related to basic human needs of clients throughout the life span. Includes foundation knowledge, concepts and skills with emphasis on health promotion and physical assessment.

Credits: 9 Hours
Prerequisite: Proof of active status on the State Nurse Aide Registry (SRNA) or documentation of successful completion of a minimum 75 hour nursing assistant course, such as NAA 100, or its equivalent, within the last three years, and *Computer Literacy is required prior to enrolling in the first nursing course. Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing Program, BIO 137 and (*MA 109 or MAT 150 or higher with a grade of C or better) and PSY 110 and ENG 101. *Course selected from approved general education list.
Prior to or concurrent: PSY 223, BIO 139, computer literacy course (selected from approved General Education list).

NRN 125 Nursing II

Nursing IICovers common drugs based on their classification and their effect upon basic human needs. Emphasizes nursing responsibility, accountability, and application of the nursing process regarding drug therapy. Credit not available by special examination.

Prerequisite: Admission to the Associate Degree Nursing rogram.
Prerequisite or Co-requisite: NRN 115
Concurrent or prior to: BIO 139 and PSY 223 with a grade of C or better, and Computer Literacy (from the general education listing); at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

NRN 235 Nursing III

Nursing IIIAreas of study include the application of the nursing process with the childbearing family focusing on health promotion and the care of families experiencing interferences with basic human needs. Emphasis is on the nurse as a provider of care. Credit not available by special examination.

Credits: 4 hours
Prerequisite: Completion of NRN 115 and BIO 139 with a grade of C or better, PSY 223 and Computer Literacy; at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
Prior to or concurrent with: English 102, NRN 125, NRN 245. Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

NRN 245 Nursing IV

Areas of study include the application of the nursing process to health promotion and interferences with the ability to meet selected basic human needs for child/adult clients. Emphasis is on the nurse as a provider of care. Credit not available by special examination.

Credits: 4 hours
Prerequisite: Completion of NRN 115 and BIO 139 with a grade of C or better, PSY 223 and Computer Literacy; at least a 2.0 cumulative grade point average.
Prior to or concurrent with: English 102, NRN 125, NRN 235. Must maintain a 2.0 cumulative GPA.

NRN 255 Nursing V

Areas of study include the application of the nursing process as it relates to health promotion and care of child/adult clients experiencing interferences with the ability to meet selected basic human needs. Emphasis is on the nurse as a provider of care. Credit not available by special examination.

Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of courses required by the first year nursing curriculum as specified; satisfactory completion being C or better in each nursing course. At least 2.0 grade point average.
Prior to or concurrent: BSL 214, communications course

NRN 265 Nursing VI

Nursing VICourse content will focus on the application of the nursing process as it relates to health promotion and care of child/adult clients experiencing interferences with the ability to meet selected basic human needs. Areas of emphasis include the nurse as a provider and manager of care as well as a member of the discipline. Credit not available by special examination.

Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of NRN 255 and BSL 214 with a grade of C or better; at least a 2.0 grade point average.
