Energy Auditor Training Program

Energy Audit DiagramKCTCS Energy Auditor/Building Analyst Training and Certification Program

The training program will focus on the home as a system. Students will receive in class training as well as hands-on training. The student will learn how to use a thermal imager, blower door, and a duct blaster to evaluate home performance.

Training schedules vary from college to college. Please contact a Workforce Solutions coordinator at a KCTCS College nearest you for information on the Energy Auditor training and program costs and information on the course that best fits your training needs.

Energy Auditor Training consists of the following:

  • Building Science
  • Building Assessment Skills
  • Diagnosing Air Leakage
  • Heating and Cooling Systems
  • The Building Shell 
  • Durable Healthy Homes
  • Water Heating & Base load
  • Computerized Energy Audit Software Programs
  • Thermal Imaging

Upon completion of this training the student will have the training needed to take the Building Performance Institute Building Analyst exam. All training approved by BPI.

Each class is set up as a combination lecture/lab and consists of classroom instruction and demonstration/hands-on with an approximate 50/50 ratio. KCTCS offers an 80-hour course consisting of 10 days and is for 5 credit hours, a 40-hour course consisting of 5 days, and a 20-hour Boot Camp course consisting of 3 days.
