Come to BCTC for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program
The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program is an exciting opportunity for people who want to get trained quickly for high-wage, high-demand careers. The program was approved as part of the 2016-18 Commonwealth budget and is currently operating under an Executive Order from Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin.
These funds provide a way for students to start a career in five of the fastest growing industries in Kentucky: healthcare, manufacturing, construction, transportation/logistics, and business services/information technology. Students who do not yet have at least an associate degree can take up to 32 credit hours paid by the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship (WRKS) tuition free. BCTC has many certificates and diplomas that are eligible for the WRKS funds, and we can help you move ahead quickly.
The WRKS is a last dollar program that covers tuition and required fees not covered by federal financial grants or loans and third party scholarships. Follow these steps to get started.
- First, apply to BCTC and select a qualified program.
- Second, fill out the Free Application for Student Federal Aid (FASFA).
- Third, apply for the Work Ready Scholarship with the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA).
Call BCTC’s Laura Lynch, Assistant Dean of Workforce Solutions, at 859-246-6583 or email for more information. For specific options and requirements, start at: workreadykentucky.com or visit the BCTC WRKS page to find more information about the scholarship and specific program information.
Labor participation data tell us that Kentucky employers have many jobs that go unfilled because they cannot find qualified workers. More Kentuckians need training to take advantage of these good paying jobs. There are currently 51,000 open jobs and more than 165,000 unemployed adults. The WRKS program is designed to connect the needs of employers with the needs of our citizens.
