In late April of this year, BCTC began construction of a new Science Education Center on the Newtown Campus in the green space behind the Administration Building. A new parking lot will also be constructed along Loudon Avenue. As with any major construction project, there is potential for disruption to the surrounding areas but we are working hard to minimize any impacts.
Construction traffic (and only construction traffic) will access our campus at the future Louden Avenue entrance across from the YMCA. All normal campus traffic (faculty, staff, student, and Police Training Academy traffic) will continue to utilize the existing entrances from Newtown Pike, 4th Street, and Louden Avenue. All of these entrances will remain open.
All existing parking areas will be open and available for use with the exception of the east end of the parking lot in the center of campus. This area will be separated by construction fencing.
The exterior ring road will be blocked to thru traffic at one point at the back of campus with all other areas remaining open to campus traffic.
For everyone s safety, no individuals will be allowed into the construction areas unless specifically authorized by the project managers and only then with the proper clothing and personal protective equipment. See construction map (PDF) for more information.
