Go to College in High School

BCTC offers high school students the opportunity to enroll in college courses that count for high school and college credit, getting you where want to be after high school faster.

If you are a current BCTC Dual Credit student and you would like to finish your degree at BCTC, please complete the Dual Credit to BCTC Freshman form.

Resources

Prerequisites

Students must meet the following criteria to enroll in general education dual credit courses:

  • Have a minimum unweighted high school GPA of 2.5
  • Meet college-readiness benchmarks for Reading AND English to enroll in ANY non-math general education course (e.g. ACT Reading 20 AND ACT English 18, or any accepted BCTC placement test equivalent).
  • Meet college-readiness benchmark score for Math to enroll in a dual credit math course (e.g. MAT 150-ACT Math 22, MA 111-ACT Math 19, or any accepted BCTC placement test equivalent).
  • AND any course-specific requirements

Students must meet the following criteria to enroll in technical dual credit courses:

  • An ACT Composite Score of 16
  • OR ACT Math 16 and Reading 16
  • OR accepted BCTC Placement test equivalent
  • OR a high school GPA of 2.5
  • AND any course-specific requirements

Cost

The dual credit rate is $58 per credit hour (e.g. a 3 credit hour ENG 101 course costs $174).

Scholarships

Dual Credit Scholarship Program

The Dual Credit Scholarship provides assistance for Kentucky high school and home school students who are taking dual credit classes at a participating Kentucky college or university. Eligible students may receive scholarships for up to two classes. For more information speak with your high school guidance counselor and visit www.kheaa.com.

Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship Program

The Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship (WRKS) helps Kentuckians who have not yet earned an associate's degree afford an industry‐recognized certificate or diploma. The WRKS program is available to college students and certain high school students who are enrolled in college coursework. Scott County Dual Credit Scholarship

The Scott County Dual Credit Student Scholarship fund provides scholarships to cover the cost of tuition for high school and home school 11th and 12th grade students who reside in Scott County, exhibit financial need, and take dual credit courses at the Georgetown-Scott County Campus of BCTC. This scholarship will be applied after a student has utilized Kentucky Dual Credit Scholarships (KHEAA) for two dual credit courses and/or available Work Ready Kentucky dual credit scholarships.

To Enroll in Dual Credit Classes

  1. Speak with your high school guidance counselor to see if you qualify
  2. Complete the BCTC admissions application at bluegrass.kctcs.edu click on “Start Your Application”
  3. To enroll in classes;
    • located at your high school, speak with your guidance counselor
    • located at a BCTC Lexington Campus or online, please complete the pre-advising form.
