The purpose of academic advising is to help students reach their educational goals. Advisors not only provide students with information about degree requirements but also help direct students to important academic resources critical to student success. At BCTC, students must consult their academic advisor each semester in order to register for classes.
All degree-seeking BCTC students are assigned an academic advisor; these asssignments are made after the conclusion of Fall and Spring late registration. Students may view their advisor assignment and advisor contact information in Starfish. Locate the Starfish link in Blackboard or in Student Self-Service.
Priority registration begins October 1 for Spring classes and March 1 for Summer and Fall classes. Use Starfish to make an appointment with your advisor.
Summer Online advising starts the Monday after finals week in May and continues until the last day of the Summer 2 semester (in August). During this time, online students may use any of the in-person advising locations.
New students, including transfer and readmitted students, should contact the BCTC Advising Center to schedule an appointment for their initial advising session and to complete any required testing. Appointments may be scheduled by telephone or email or in person on the nearest BCTC Campus:
