The NLN PAX-RN comprises of three main areas: Verbal skills, which consists of both word knowledge and reading comprehension; Mathematics, which includes basic calculations, word problems, and incorporates algebra, geometry, conversions, graphs, and applied mathematics; and Science, which examines general biology, chemistry, physics, and earth science.

What makes my NLN score report "official"?

For students that take the NLN exam at one of BCTC's testing centers, our staff will provide you will an "official" copy of your NLN scores. This document is considered "official" when it is embossed or stamped by the testing center.

For students that take the NLN at a testing site other than BCTC, it is likely that the testing center will not provide you with a stamped document. As a result, you will need to order a "duplicate score report" from the NLN testing services. Please print the email you receive from NLN with your complete packet.

What score is considered for selected admissions?

Each college sets its own admission standards. The NLN is not involved in this process, nor does the NLN establish a "passing" or "failing" mark on the test. Test results show how your scores compare with those of other applicants who have taken this examination. In making admission decisions, however, schools consider factors other than test results. Contact Cooper Campus nursing advisors to inquire about our admission requirements.

When and where is the PAX-RN offered?

Available test dates are listed on the registration site. The NLN Exam is available at a variety of locations including Bluegrass Community and Technical College, Leestown Campus, 164 Opportunity Way, CCD Assessment Center, North Building, Room 110, unless otherwise noted.

There is a fee of $8 per copy, and you should allow a week for receipt of the scores. The Leestown campus only has access to tests that they administer and NLN does not keep scores indefinitely. If you took your test elsewhere, then you should contact that agency or NLN Customer Service.

Test reports are typically given to you prior to leaving the Assessment Center on Leestown Campus. It is your responsibility to provide a copy of the results with your application packet to BCTC s nursing program selected admissions staff (effective September 1, 2009). If you are applying at non-BCTC locations, please provide a stamped/addressed envelope on the day of the test, if we need to forward the results. Many locations will accept results directly from you. Please check with each college s admission requirements prior to testing. Keep a copy for your records.
