Career Services

The Career Center is designed to assist you to be career ready for the world of work through high-quality career and technical programs, workforce and skill training, and continuing education.

We offer the following services for current and future students:

  • Meet Our Counselors for Career Coaching: Our career counselors support and empower you to fulfill your personal, educational, and career goals. We will help you develop a plan of action to achieve your goals, develop essential skills needed for the World of Work, and provide guidance and assistance for your classes and work-life balance.

  • Take a Career Assessment: You can take multiple career interest, strengths, values, and personality inventories to find your career match. Your can also have our career counselors analyze and explain your assessment results to help in your decision-making of narrowing your career path.

  • Explore Your Career: BCTC offers multiple career pathways to assist in leading you to a successful future. Using the Occupational Outlook Handbook (OOH), you learn about salary, employment outcomes, education and training requirements. Review our programs and the OOH report to prepare you for high demand, high wage jobs in two years of study or less.

  • Schedule for a Career Counseling Appointment to Decide on a Major and Career Exploration: Our career counselors can help you choose a major, learn about our academic programs and career options, find a career within your major, develop a career action plan while in school and when you graduate, and interpret self-assessment results.

  • Schedule for a Career Advising Appointment: Meet one-on-one or email our Career Counselors, who can help you develop an Individual Career Success Plan on deciding on a major, course prerequisites and recommendations for the career, complete a degree audit for graduation, workforce skill development, and much more!

  • Apply for Internships/Cooperative Education and Placement: Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) offers students work based educational experiences through cooperative and experiential education courses. These courses offer students on- and off-campus workplace education with in-demand career skills development.

  • Attend Our Career Events: Our Career Center hosts multiple events throughout the year from job fairs to find a employment or internships among our local and state-wide employers while in school or after graduation, and on-campus recruitment and hiring events by local and national, competitive employers in multiple career industries such as healthcare, manufacturing, human services, education, etc. We also present monthly our career development workshops on a wide range of topics from deciding on a major and career, resume building, drafting a cover letter, networking, creating a LinkedIn account, interviewing techniques, and so much more. All events are free and open to the public.

  • Career Resource Links: Online resources gathered by area of interest and career, resume building, job searching, career assessments and exploration, etc.
  • Activate Your FREE Account on Career Network Job Board: Whether you are currently looking for part-time, full-time, seasonal employment or internships, or waiting until graduation, you can register for your FREE account on our Career Network Job Board, where you can find internships, cooperative education opportunities, volunteering opportunities, as well as full and part-time jobs. Career Network Job Board also provides a career library of resources from podcast, articles, videos, etc. on resume building, networking, interviews, etc. Register for Your Free Account!

  • Develop Your Job Searching Skills with a Counselor: Our career counselors can help you develop job and internship searching strategies, create and critique your resume and cover letter, practice mock interviewing questions for phone, Skype, in person, panel, and other types of interviews, negotiating salary and benefits, professional dress attire, etc.

  • Dress for Success Closet: Our career counselors can help you find the appropriate and professional look for an interview and/or networking opportunities. You can also be eligible to select and keep interview and work apparel from ties, jackets, dresses, shoes, purses, etc. in our stocked profession Dress of Success closet.
