Environmental Science Technology
Environmental Technician
The Environmental Science Technology program at BCTC includes specialized environmental
science courses in addition to general education coursework to provide the background
necessary for a career that protects and enhances natural resources and human health.
Graduates of this program will use the principles of science and engineering to sample and analyze air, water and soil in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Practical laboratory and field experience in sampling and analysis is stressed. Students work with the latest technology including gas chromatography, global positioning, spectrophotometry and computer software. Technicians may perform lab and field tests to monitor environmental resources and determine contaminants and sources of pollution. They may also be responsible for pollution surveillance, analysis of water and waste-water samples, data interpretation and other support services.
