Bachelor’s Programs for EST Grads
Many EST graduates continue on to a 4-year university for a bachelor’s degree. Biology and Geology/Earth Science degrees are closely linked to the EST Program but there is a wide variety of options available. Check out the list below for some options you may not have considered.
University of Kentucky
The Natural Resources and Environmental Science (NRES) major is an interdisciplinary program that provides the knowledge, skills, and field experiences necessary for a career in environmental science, natural resource management, environmental consulting and other environmental work.
Biosystems engineers are trained in biological, environmental and engineering sciences and challenged to improve the sustainability of production systems, decrease or eliminate environmental hazards and preserve natural resources.
Civil engineering emphasizes infrastructure—geotechnical, water resources, environmental, transportation, construction and structural engineering, as well as other related fields.
Environmental and Sustainable Studies (B.A.)
Environmental & Sustainability Studies (ENS) is an interdisciplinary field that examines the social and environmental understandings, causes, consequences, and policy responses to important environmental issues taking place around the world such as global climate change, pollution, and biodiversity loss.
The Forestry major offers a diverse career path in an outdoor office. Foresters are qualified to do almost any job that involves assessing, utilizing, protecting, preserving, restoring or re-establishing forests.
Geographers examine spatial processes - physical, political, social, cultural, environmental, economic - and ask why places have the characteristics they do. Geographers investigate all types of environments, and learn how to make significant contributions to more sustainable environments and more just societies.
Landscape Architecture encompasses the art and science of design, planning, and management of the land. The science of landscape architecture deals with the conservation and management of natural resources; the art of landscape architecture deals with the creation of more enjoyable, comfortable, and safe outdoor areas where human use requires adaptation of the natural environment.
Eastern Kentucky University
Environmental Health Science (EHS) is a career in high demand and is ideal for students strong in math and science, who have a desire to positively impact their community. EHS includes public health, preventative medicine, disease detection, environmental protection and more
Geographic information is used in a wide variety of careers in science, business, environment, government, health sciences, engineering, education, homeland security, criminal justice, etc. Geographic Information Systems (GIS) use computer and mapping skills to display information and help in decision-making.
Geologists help find solutions to our nation’s energy and resource needs, the environment and water quality issues. Geologists also help protect citizens by helping predict natural disasters such as volcanoes, earthquakes, landslides, and floods.
Wildlife Management includes the scientific management of game or non-game fish and wildlife, improving habitat for rare or threatened species and helping maintain habitat for valued common wild animals. Wildlife managers also help resolve conflicts between man and overabundant or nonnative species of wildlife.
Northern Kentucky University
Both the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) and the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) offer a solid foundation in the sciences and emphasize the importance of understanding the interrelationships among the humanities, social sciences, and natural sciences.
Murray State University
Civil & Sustainability Engineering
Murray State University has announced a new Bachelor of Science degree in civil and sustainability engineering. Knowledge and skills related to traditional civil engineering areas such as structural analysis and design, steel and concrete design, highway design, transportation systems, storm water control, waste water treatment and site remediation are fundamental to the program.
The environmental science track at Murray State emphasizes an all-inclusive understanding of environmental issues occurring at the local, national and global level. Developing original solutions to these problems requires making connections across many fields, including geology, chemistry, geography and biology. By taking courses in each of these areas, you'll learn how the life and physical sciences help us understand the root causes of environmental issues.
University of Louisville
The Bachelor of Science in Bioengineering degree is designed to provide students with a rigorous education grounded in basic mathematics and sciences traditional to all engineering programs, but focuses additionally on chemistry, biology and physiology, and the opportunity to gain practical experience within the biomedical or bioengineering industry. In the early part of their academic program, students are exposed to fundamentals of engineering and design in mechanical and electrical engineering before proceeding to core Bioengineering classes.
Western Kentucky University
The mission of the Environmental Health Science (EHS) Program at Western Kentucky University is to educate students in preparation for an exciting career in the environmental health science. The EHS Program is committed to providing south central Kentucky, the state, and the nation with entry-level environmental professionals. The program is built upon a sound foundation of providing students with a background in assessing environmental resources, including water, air, and land resources, in relation to environmental and human health.
A Geographic Information System or just simply GIS, combines computer technology and trained people to develop digital models of the world around us. These models of the world can help us to understand and plan for the future of communities and regions more effectively. A GIS includes capabilities for digital data creation, the storage and retrieval of digital data, the manipulation and analysis of those data, and the presentation of data using maps, graphs, tables, and other displays.
