BCTC Names Associate Vice President for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

LEXINGTON, KY — Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is pleased to announce that Taran McZee has been named associate vice president for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
McZee will lead the diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, serving all seven BCTC campuses.
“Ensuring all students on our campuses feel represented and heard is a priority for BCTC,” said Dr. Koffi Akakpo, BCTC president. “Taran McZee brings extensive experience collaborating with communities to develop and implement services that maximize diversity, equity and inclusion on college campuses. This experience and his visible passion for student engagement and success will serve our students and the BCTC community well.”
For over 14 years, McZee has served college communities facilitating equity and inclusion for all students. Most recently as the associate vice president for Diversity and Inclusion at Transylvania University, he led efforts to design inclusion programming that promoted dialogue and a culture of respect, encounter and justice.
McZee holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology and master’s degree in Educational Administration and Community Leadership from Central Michigan University. He is currently completing his doctoral degree in Adult and Higher Education at Morehead State University.
“I would like to thank BCTC for giving me this opportunity to lead the institution into its next phase of diversity, inclusion and equity service,” McZee said. “I look forward to working with faculty, staff and students to prioritize equity in our system and engage the communities we serve.”
McZee will begin his new position Oct. 16.
