BCTC Sonography Program Nationally Accredited

LEXINGTON, KY — The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) has accredited the Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) Diagnostic Medical Sonography Cardiac program.
The accreditation process includes a thorough review of the program, curriculum, resources, faculty and staff and a site visit. The CAAHEP standards by which this program was measured are intended to reflect required knowledge and skills needed to successfully function within the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Cardiac profession.
This is exciting news for a growing sonography program at the BCTC Leestown Campus which now offers two tracks: cardiac sonography (adult echocardiography) and vascular sonography. These are selective admissions programs that will prepare students for a dynamic career in the high wage, high demand field of healthcare.
“As each individual program is reviewed, CAAHEP stays focused on each profession’s standards and quality outcomes to assure that every CAAHEP accredited program is preparing students to be successful as they enter their chosen health care field,” said CAAHEP President Glen Mayhew, DHSc, NRP. “We congratulate the Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Cardiac program on achieving initial CAAHEP accreditation.”
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography program began fall 2018 and will graduate its first class this month.
