BCTC offering virtual event during National Transfer Student Week

LEXINGTON, KY — Preparing students to transfer to universities is an important part of the Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) mission. Many students continue their education by transferring to a four-year partner with little or no student debt.
During National Transfer Student Week, Oct. 19-23, BCTC and the 16 colleges of KCTCS will offer virtual transfer fairs. Students who intend to transfer can learn more about their university of interest and connect directly with representatives who can answer questions.
Nearly 50 universities are participating in the Thriving Through Transfer Fair. Students can view those partners and register online to participate at a time that is convenient. Some may receive a gift from participating universities.
“Research shows that community college students who transfer to four-year institutions are more likely to persist,” said Dr. Koffi Akakpo, BCTC president. “Providing information to assist students in the transfer process is essential. We are doing it a little differently this year due to the pandemic, but this important event will carry on as we help students determine the next step in their education.”
BCTC graduate Caleb Kinmom has a great transfer story: “Because of BCTC, I am prepared for an Ivy League school and transferring to Columbia University in New York City without any student loan debt.”
Students can save as much as $32,000 by taking their first two years at a community college. Credits transfer easily and many scholarship opportunities available, including two plus two programs offered by some universities.
