BCTC Winchester offers more healthcare program options

Published on Jul 9, 2020

LEXINGTON, KY - Due to student interest and need in the medical community, Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) Winchester-Clark County Campus will offer the Kentucky Medication Aide (KMA) course this fall.

The KMA course prepares the Medicaid Nurse Aide to administer specific medications in a long-term care facility, as delegated and supervised by a licensed nurse. The KMA program is part of increasing health care programming at BCTC Winchester to serve Clark Regional Medical Center and other local healthcare providers.

"Offering the Ky Medication Aide (KMA) certificate in Winchester is another step in growing our healthcare programs at the Winchester-Clark County Campus," said campus director Bruce Manley. "We were able to purchase the equipment for this certificate thanks to several generous donors in our community. This educational opportunity shows the generosity of Winchester."

The Kentucky Medication Aide course is a five credit hour hybrid format with in-person and online instruction. The class is offered Wednesdays 9 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., August 19 through October 11. This course is eligible for the Work Ready Kentucky Scholarship, which means an eligible student could take the course for free and begin a new career in healthcare.
