BCTC announces joint fundraising effort with Alltech
October 24, 2014 Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) and Alltech have announced a new fundraising partnership that will have BCTC students selling Alltech's Caf Citadelle brand coffee and keeping a portion of the profits to benefit student organizations and the BuildSmart Campaign for the Newtown Campus. Sale profits will also go to support two primary schools and economic development projects in Haiti as part of Alltech's 501c3 Sustainable Haiti Project.
Alltech Caf Citadelle coffee is shade-grown in Haiti and is made of 100 percent Arabica beans. Through the Caf Citadelle brand, Alltech has created a sales and marketing channel for Fair Trade Certified TM Haitian coffee, which helps foster sustainable enterprise in Haiti, particularly following the devastation caused by the January 2010 earthquake.
Four flavors of Caf Citadelle will be available for purchase through BCTC: Regular Ground, Ground French-Vanilla, Whole Bean and Whole Bean Espresso. The fundraising partnership will last from October 24 to April 4, 2015. Up to 150 students are expected to participate, with hopes of raising approximately $32,000 for BCTC's initiatives, in addition to the support of the Sustainable Haiti Project.
A portion of the profits from the sales will benefit both the student organizations and the college's BuildSmart Campaign, which is a public-private partnership to provide funding for the top capital project at BCTC.
We appreciate Alltech creating this terrific opportunity for BCTC students. They can generate funds for activities, help the college grow, and introduce more people to great coffee--with an added benefit of fulfilling their service role by helping the Haitian people. We are excited to participate in this wonderful partnership, said Dr. Augusta A. Julian, President and CEO of BCTC.
BCTC is a tremendous asset to Kentucky's Bluegrass region, and we've been delighted to see it flourish under the leadership of Dr. Julian, said Dr. Pearse Lyons, president and founder of Alltech. BCTC and Dr. Julian have been great friends to Alltech, particularly in hosting our 2014 Innovation Competition on their Newtown campus, and we're looking forward now to a winning partnership with their campus community that will see their programs benefit, while delivering hope to the people of Haiti.
