BCTC presents the 2015 New Horizons Awards of Excellence for faculty and staff
Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is proud to present the 2015 BCTC New Horizons Award of Excellence to three top recipients. The New Horizons Award of Excellence is a system-wide award sponsored by the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) and honors significant and innovative employee achievements during the past year.
Winners are nominated by their peers and compete against winners from each of the 16 KCTCS colleges for the system-level award. Student outreach, community involvement and professional development are just some of the attributes that the honorees need to win the award. The three BCTC recipients are:
New Horizons Faculty Award of Excellence: Nancy Bronner, Associate Professor of Nursing, was nominated by her peers for her willingness to step up and volunteer to take on a project, course lead, and chair committees. She projects a caring attitude towards her students and looks for ways to improve her student classroom learning experience. Bronner has recently been named President on the board of Kentucky League of Nursing (KLN), which she has been a member of for the past seven years, and she has also served many years on the Bluegrass Task Force for Long Term Care. Bronner has been instrumental in the development of online nursing courses and completed the Certified Nurse Education certification.
New Horizons Administrative Staff Award of Excellence: Connie Rine, IT Support Center Manager, was nominated by her peers for going above and beyond in her service to faculty, staff and students at BCTC. She is currently serving as both Support Center Manager and Coordinator of Technical Training and Distance Learning Support. Rine has spearheaded the enhancement of the Support Center Help Desk by increasing help desk hours, reducing response rate times, and has cross-trained personnel to ensure efficiency and teamwork. Rine was also instrumental in the past year with various large-scale application upgrades throughout BCTC. She still maintains her support of academics by continuing the technology training, distance learning, and Blackboard support she has always provided.
New Horizons Support Staff Award of Excellence: Beverly Drake, Human Resources Assistant, was nominated by her peers for her responsibility of coordinating the faculty promotion and tenure process with BCTC's President and the promotions committee chair for the college. This is in addition to her full time position as a human resources assistant. Drake has served in an administrative support role for 38 years in Academics and Human Resources with first, Lexington Community College, and then BCTC. She is noted for her excellent work ethic and attention to detail, showing a commitment to confidentiality in every aspect of her duties.
The BCTC community of faculty, staff and students would like to congratulate all the recipients on their awards and look forward to their continued success for years to come.
