BCTC Transfer Fair a Big Success

LEXINGTON, KY (October 26, 2007) Bluegrass Community amp; Technical College (BCTC) Interim President Dr. J. Larry Durrence and University of Kentucky (UK) Provost, Dr. Kumble Subbaswamy met with students during the second annual BCTC Transfer Week, held at the Transfer Center on the Cooper Campus.

The need of continued higher education for students competing in the global job market of today is vital, remarked Dr. Durrence to the student audience. Additionally, he encouraged students to study in science and math, given that Kentucky is a low producer of scientists and engineers.

Students transferring from BCTC to UK, shows that we are keeping the best minds in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, its a win-win situation for everyone. said Dr. Subbaswamy. He also reminded the audience about the 20/20 scholarship that is offered to BCTC students who earn an associates degree and maintain a 3.5 GPA that are transferring to UK. They will pay the same tuition rates at UK that they were paying at BCTC.

In addition, to the University of Kentucky, the Transfer Center had representatives from Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University and Kentucky State University, on hand to answer questions and to help students navigate the transfer process. In the 2006-07 school year, more students transferred from Bluegrass Community and Technical College (1,086) than from any other KCTCS college. BCTC was the largest feeder for four of the states universities including, the University of Kentucky, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, and Northern Kentucky University.

The Transfer Center is funded by a Title III grant from the U.S. Department of Education. For more information, contact the Transfer Center Director Cathy Penfold, at (859) 246-4622 or cathy.penfold@kctcs.edu.
