BCTC Theatre Program presents one-act plays, ‘3 From The Bluegrass’ June 8-11

May 29, 2017

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The Bluegrass Community and Technical College’s (BCTC) Theatre Department will be presenting “3 From The Bluegrass,” three one-act plays written by Kentucky playwrights. The three plays consist of:

  • “The Auction” by George McGee, a story about “a husband with his new laptop computer who finds a U.S. Government surplus web page. He has always been fascinated by lighthouses and in jest, he places a bid for one of lighthouses. To his surprise, he wins the lighthouse! Now all he has to do is tell his wife.” This piece was commissioned in 2014 by the Kentucky Playwrights Workshop, Inc. (KPW), a public charity based in Williamsburg, KY., and made its world premiere in August 2015 at The Bardstown Theatre, Louisville. The dramaturg for that show was Bo List.
  • “A Couple of Turns Around the Block” by Jim Inman, is making its world premiere by BCTC Theatre, and takes place Christmastime 1940, when “two lonely strangers meet and take a cab ride that neither will ever forget.”
  • “I Left My Heart in Kissimmee” by Bo List, finds "William’s painting, ‘Kentucky Derby’ has caused a stir in Elsa’s gallery. There are no horses in it – just a man sitting on a bed. So - why the title? And who is the man in the painting? William won’t say. But when the unwitting model’s wife enters the exhibit looking for answers about what her husband’s been doing behind her back, the truth about the painting – and the Kentucky Derby – comes out." This piece was also commissioned by KPW. Kathi E.B. Ellis was the play’s dramaturg.

The plays will run June 8-10, 7:30 p.m., and on June 11, at 2 p.m. at the Stagebox Theatre, 3323 Partner Place, Suite. 13, Lexington, KY.

All tickets are $10.00. For ticket information, please contact 859-425-2550 or go to www.lexingtonky.gov/DAC
