Bluegrass Community Technical Colleges Transfer Center to Pilot New Peer Mentoring Program
LEXINGTON, KY (October 23, 2007) The Bluegrass Community amp; Technical Colleges (BCTC) Transfer Center will pilot a new peer mentoring program for minority students. The Peers Rallying Inspiration, Dreams amp; Education (PRIDE) program, is designed to increase the transfer rate of BCTC minority students to four- year institutions.
The PRIDE program was formed in response to the National Student Clearinghouse Student Tracker Report statistics for the academic year of 2005-2006. The report revealed that approximately 1,000 students transferred from BCTC to four- year institutions to earn a bachelors degree.
Students involved in the PRIDE program will be provided mentoring partnership with former BCTC students who have successfully transferred to four-year institutions. The mentors will serve to inform, inspire, motivate, and assist students in the transfer process.
Ive never really thought about what to do after I receive my associates degree, attending a four-year university never really crossed my mind entirely, said BCTC student Ellen Strode, participant in the Pride program.
Currently enrolled students who have a GPA of 2.0 or higher and 24 or more credit hours are encouraged to participate in the program. For more information about PRIDE, students can contact Angel Clay, Associate Director, BCTC Transfer Center, at (859) 246-6228 or by email at email@example.com.
