Bluegrass Community and Technical College welcomed students for the first ever day of classes at the Newtown campus
The campus is still under construction, but several programs have been moved to the Newtown location, including Film Studies: Script to Screen, Information Management and Design, Medical Information Technology, Office Systems Technology, Health Information Technology and Real Estate. More programs will be added for the Spring semester as the construction progresses.
The Newtown campus features new science and computer labs, a film production studio and editing lab, several student lounge areas, and a roof garden.
The four-story building is LEED certified, meaning that many steps were taken to ensure that the building is energy-efficient. One example of technology is the classroom lights which use infrared sensors to tell if anyone is in the room; if the window light is strong enough the sensors for the lights will cause the lights to dim in the section of the room.
