Federal grant to assist BCTC military veteran students

LEXINGTON, Ky. (Dec. 13, 2010) Bluegrass Community and Technical College is a partner in a federal grant that will assist military veterans with academic resources to transfer to a four-year university.

BCTC will receive $50,000 over a two-year period from a National Science Foundation grant awarded to the University of Kentucky Research Foundation.

Funding from this grant will assist BCTC in setting up a Veterans Resource Center and increase academic support services available to active military, veterans, and their dependents. In addition, these students can work with the BCTC Veterans Resource Coordinator to take courses in the BCTC Blue+ program, a transfer/dual enrollment program between BCTC and UK.

"This grant will greatly expand our capabilities as a resource for veterans," said BCTC Veterans Resource Coordinator Alex DeSha. "By fostering closer ties between veterans at BCTC and UK, we are creating the solid foundation for student veteran success and opportunity."
