Sustainability Grant Awarded to BCTC
LEXINGTON, Ky. (Thursday, May 16, 2013) - BCTC has been awarded a matching Sustainability Grant of $2,500 from the Department of Environmental Quality and Public Works of the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government on behalf of Mayor Jim Gray. The grant will sustain a two-part project that is designed to impact water quality and quantity at the BCTC's Peace Meal Garden, at the Leestown Campus.
According to project manager Larry Porter, the funds will help develop a solar powered water catchment and delivery system; utilizing run-off from a storage building. The project is also designed to restore a degraded stream bed and riparian zone located near the garden. As a portion of the match for this grant, the BCTC Energy Club is donating the cost of the pump system provided by the UK Center for Applied Energy.
Each phase of the construction and restoration efforts for this project will be joint efforts from various organizations at BCTC that are primarily student lead.
