Words from an Intern

The KY Legislative Internship Program at BCTC is an extraordinary opportunity for any student. This internship program has opened countless doors for me and given me opportunities I could never have imagined. When I was asked to be the pilot student for the polaroid of Sarah Thomas, smiling and holding a bookprogram, I had no idea that my life was about to change dramatically. I didn t know that places like the Kentucky State Capitol would become a second home to me and that I would have the opportunity to have critical conversations about our amazing state with leaders who impact our lives every day. I had no idea that I would work on United States Senate races or become a voting rights advocate. Before my internship I didn't know where life was going to take me, but I knew I wanted to make a difference in my community and make Kentucky a stronger state for generations to come. After my internship I knew how I could make this dream a reality. We hear every day as Americans that our voice matters, that our votes count, but after my internship in Frankfort I became more keenly aware of just how true those statements are. History is made by those who show up. I hope that this internship program can inspire students the way it has inspired and changed me. It might seem like a clich, but be the change you want to see in the world.
