MUS 100 Introduction to Music (3 hrs. Lecture Class)

MUS 100 introduces the elements of music as they apply to the listening experience. Emphasizes the development of an awareness and understanding of musical styles from the Middle Ages to the present. Designed for the non-music major with no prior knowledge of music and is not intended to fulfill a program course requirement for music majors. It fulfills 3 credit hours under the General Education requirement for Humanities.

MUS 222 History and Sociology of Rock Music (3 hrs. Lecture Class)

MUS 222 provides a listening survey course, with a chronological approach, covering the years 1950- present. Emphasizes both the music and the sociological climate reflected and advocated by the music. It fulfills 3 credit hours under the General Education requirement for Humanities.

UK Chorale, Marching Band & Concert Band

UK Chorale
BCTC students have the opportunity to audition for University of Kentucky’s MUC 174 UK Chorale. If a BCTC student wants to join the Chorale, they will need to apply and be accepted to UK as a visiting student and then follow the registration progress that UK provides. UK Marching Band
BCTC students have the opportunity to audition for University of Kentucky’s Marching Band. Upon a successful audition and UK instructor approval, students will participate in MUC 190 during the Fall semester.

UK Concert Band
BCTC students have the opportunity to participate in University of Kentucky’s Concert Band, the newest large ensemble at UK. The concert band is primarily for the general student; both music and non-music majors who desire the continuation of an instrumental music experience. Consent of the instructor is required to register for MUC 187.
