Sonography Selective Admissions

Application deadline

The Sonography program accepts new applicants each Fall, the deadline to apply is March 1.

How to Apply

  • Create a Selective Admissions System account. Once you have an active account you can print a program checklist to begin the process.
  • Students who are not currently enrolled in classes at BCTC must fill out a general application for admission.
  • Official transcripts of all post-secondary education attempted. Transcripts must be submitted from EACH college or university previously attended and must show every period of enrollment. Transcripts from the Kentucky Community and Technical College System do not need to be submitted.
  • Take the Ultrasound Student Assessment (USA) register through the Leestown testing center.
  • Students are required to complete an interview with the program coordinator prior to applying. Students need to email to schedule an interview.
    • Interviews are only for students ready to apply for the program. These are not advising or informational sessions.
  • Optional Students are encouraged to attend a virtual Q&A session for more information. Attending a Q&A session is not required for admissions.

Gather all the documents required for consideration to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography-Cardiac Track and place them in one envelope.

Your packet must include...

  1. Checklist from Selective Admissions Account
  2. Interview Confirmation Sheet
  3. Official scores from the Ultrasound Student Assessment (USA)
  4. Any transcript(s) NOT already on file with BCTC (please email for questions regarding transcripts)

Admissions criteria

The following criteria will be evaluated for each applicant. Preference points will be added for each criteria as listed below; a maximum of 65 preference points may be possible.

Biological Sciences and Physical Science Courses

Preference points (pts) will be applied for grades in these courses as follows: A - 10 pts, B - 8 pts, C – 5 pts.

Preferred courses that can earn these points are:

  • BIO 137 Human Anatomy & Physiology I
  • BIO 139 Human Anatomy & Physiology II
  • PHY 171 Applied Physics

Allied Health Program Preference

Preference may be given to applicants who have graduated or are in their final semester of a two-year accredited Allied Health program or have the minimum of an Associate of Applied Science Degree in a clinically related field.

Graduate applicant transcript must show the degree awarded (Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science). Ten (10) preference points added.

Pending graduate applicant additionally must submit a signed letter from their Program Director/Coordinator documenting the students date of completion or graduation. Five (5) preference points added.
