At BCTC, we have begun a new initiative based on the research and strategies offered in The 4 Disciplines of Execution by Chris McChesney, Sean Covey, and Jim Huling, and published by FranklinCovey in 2012.
February is famously “Black History Month.” It is also American Heart Month, Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, and Oral Hygiene Awareness Month. Everybody and their dog, literally, has a designated month in which to celebrate.
At BCTC we have a shared culture focused on a welcoming learning environment and a commitment to student success. Additionally, we love to host events and activities that bring guests and visitors to campus.
A phrase I have heard describing the role of a college president is to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.” The expression was actually coined by an American journalist, Chicago syndicated columnist Finley Peter Dunne (1867–1936), to describe the crucial role that newspapers play in society (Observations by Mr. Dooley (1902, 240).
Happy New Year to all of you! Time away from classes or work responsibilities can give us a space to think about what matters in our lives. Each year, from Thanksgiving though the New Year, our focus can be on families and fun, the joy of giving, helping others not so fortunate, or time for different pursuits.
