Bluegrass Community and Technical College Expands Adult Education Services to Woodford County

Published on Jul 22, 2025

Dr. Feeney cutting the ribbon in front of KCTCS Versailles, KY - Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) celebrated the expansion of its Adult Education services to Woodford County with a ribbon cutting and open house today at its new location: 300 North Main Street, Suite 160 in Versailles, KY. This new site, housed within the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS) Office, underscores BCTC’s long-standing commitment to adult learners throughout Central Kentucky.

Since launching Adult Education programming in Fayette County in 1998, BCTC has expanded to serve Anderson, Clark, Estill, Fayette, Scott, and now Woodford County. In the 2024–2025 academic year alone, BCTC Adult Education served 1,448 students. BCTC surpassed the state average of learners achieving a Measurable Skill Gain, a federally recognized benchmark, by 5.4%.

“Expanding into Woodford County reflects our deep belief that every adult in Kentucky deserves access to high-quality education and the chance to create a better future for themselves, their families and communities,” said Dr. Greg Feeney, BCTC President/CEO. “Our Adult Education program is about more than earning a GED, it’s about empowering individuals with the skills, confidence, and support they need to thrive in today’s workforce and beyond.”

BCTC Adult Education provides more than GED preparation. Programs include:

  • Workplace English Language Development (WELD): Focused on English language skills and employability, 69.8% of BCTC AE students were enrolled in WELD courses last year.
  • Integrated Education and Training (IET): Through employer partnerships like Amazon, BCTC supports customized training. In 2024–2025, 249 Amazon employees improved their workplace English to enhance job performance.

As part of KCTCS, BCTC contributes significantly to adult education across the Commonwealth:

  • BCTC maintains an open-admissions policy, offering open access to students with or without a high school diploma.
  • On average, 17.8% of BCTC’s incoming first-time freshmen enter college using a GED.
  • In 2024, KCTCS campuses awarded nearly 54% of all GEDs in Kentucky—over 2,500 statewide—and served 49% of Kentucky’s 11,700 adult learners.

BCTC’s Adult Education expansion into Woodford County is more than a milestone, it's a reaffirmation of the college’s mission to transform lives through accessible, inclusive, and future-focused education.
