Inclement and Emergency Weather Information
Where to get Closing/Delay Information
The most up-to-date and complete information can be obtained through the following official college sources:
- BCTC website at bluegrass.kctcs.edu
- BCTC Social Media
- Local media broadcast
- SNAP emergency notification messages via phone and text
Please Note: The timely receipt of SNAP messages may depend on your cell phone service and accuracy of the information in the system. Please be sure your information is up-to-date.
If there is inclement weather and no announcement is made, one should assume that the college is open for normal operating hours.
Please note: The college does NOT announce that it is operating on normal scheduled hours.
During inclement weather or any other emergency, it is the policy of BCTC to keep all offices open and classes in session as scheduled, if possible and practical.
If a decision to change college operations is necessary, the college president will consult with college leadership. When a decision is made, it will be communicated to the college and community through the college website, social media, local media broadcasts and SNAP messaging.
Please Note: BCTC closures will be implemented on a campus-by-campus basis depending on the conditions in each city or class location.
CAMPUS CLOSING means the campus facilities are closed to the public and employees, and all classes are cancelled. If the campus is closed and daytime classes are cancelled, night classes are also cancelled.
REMOTE OPERATION means college facilities will be closed to the public and employees, but classes and college services will continue remotely.
Supervisors will give remote work instruction to employees.
BCTC courses have remote learning capabilities through Blackboard. If the college campuses or off-campus sites are closed due to inclement weather or other significant events, students should expect communication from their instructor on remote instruction opportunities. Students should monitor Blackboard and their KCTCS email for this information.
If a CAMPUS DELAY is necessary, the campus will open at 9:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m., depending on conditions. Employees will report at the start time and services and classes will begin at that time.
Please Note: All classes scheduled prior to and up to the delayed time (either 9:30 a.m. or 11:00 a.m.) are cancelled.
If you are a high school student taking classes at BCTC, there may be times when BCTC remains open when your high school location is delayed or closed. We take the safety of our students seriously and always want students/parents to use their best judgment before deciding to drive to class. Students should always communicate with their instructor if unable to attend class.
A final word of caution: In any inclement weather situation, it is up to the individual employee or student as to whether conditions permit safe travel. It is impossible to accurately assess the road and weather conditions across central Kentucky. Some areas may experience severe weather conditions while other areas are less affected. The ultimate decision on travel rests with the individual. However, if you are not able to come to work or attend classes when the college is open, it is your responsibility to notify your supervisor (or instructor) of the absence in a timely manner. Please consult your course syllabus or KCTCS Policies and Procedures for more information.
