BCTC Launches Innovative Additive Technology Program at Georgetown-Scott County Campus
Published on Nov 11, 2025
Georgetown, KY - Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is proud to announce the launch
of its new Additive Technology Program at the Georgetown-Scott County Campus. This
cutting-edge program is designed to equip students with the knowledge, technical skills,
and industry insight needed to thrive in the rapidly expanding field of additive engineering.
Combining theoretical learning with hands-on experience, the program prepares students to earn an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) degree in just two years with full-time study. The curriculum emphasizes real-world projects and provides students the opportunity to work with a diverse range of additive technologies, including extrusion-based 3D printing, UV curing, and G Code structure, while also exploring the role of AI tools in additive manufacturing.
Students will develop expertise in material selection, process optimization, safety, and post-processing techniques, gaining a deep understanding of the principles and applications of additive engineering across industries.
The program’s Additive Engineering Track features a unique 9-credit hour elective sequence that allows students to specialize in an industry of their choice such as business, filmmaking, automotive, computer technology, or healthcare. This tailored approach ensures graduates leave BCTC with both advanced additive manufacturing skills and relevant, industry-specific experience, making them highly marketable and adaptable in the modern workforce.
“BCTC is committed to supporting workforce growth and innovation,” said Dr. Greg Feeney, President/CEO of Bluegrass Community and Technical College. “The Additive Technology Program represents our commitment to providing students with the tools and education needed to excel in emerging industries. This program not only supports local and regional workforce needs but also empowers our students to become creators, problem solvers, and innovators.”
“Additive manufacturing is transforming how industries design, create, and produce,” said Kevin Griffis, Program Coordinator for Additive Technology. “This program gives students the opportunity to be at the forefront of that transformation. By learning advanced additive techniques and applying them in real-world projects, our students will graduate ready to make an immediate impact in the workforce.”
BCTC will host a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the official launch of the Additive Technology Program on Monday, November 17, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at the Georgetown-Scott County Campus. Community members, industry partners, and prospective students are invited to attend and learn more about how BCTC is shaping the future of advanced manufacturing and technology education.
