Shemar FrazierLEXINGTON, KY – BCTC Celebrates First-Ever National Championship as Shemar Frazier Wins NJCAAE Division I Title in Street Fighter 6.

Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is proud to announce a historic milestone: BCTC student-athlete Shemar Frazier has won the NJCAAE Division I National Championship in Street Fighter 6, marking the first national championship in the college’s history. This achievement comes during only the second semester of BCTC’s esports program, underscoring the rapid rise and competitive strength of the new initiative.

Frazier delivered a standout performance throughout the season, completing the regular season undefeated at 13–0. He advanced to the Eastern Regional Tournament, where he dropped a single match to the College of Lake County but ultimately won the regional title. Frazier then continued his momentum into the National Championship Tournament, where he secured the national title and finished the year with a dominant 21–1 overall record.

The NJCAAE Division I National Championship represents the highest level of competitive collegiate Street Fighter 6 for two-year colleges across the country.

BCTC President Dr. Greg Feeney commended Frazier for setting a new standard of excellence at the college: “Shemar’s performance is nothing short of remarkable. Winning a national championship, especially in just the second semester of our esports program, demonstrates the incredible talent of our students and the strong foundation of this growing initiative. We are extremely proud of Shemar and excited about what this means for the future of esports at BCTC.”

BCTC participates in NJCAAE competition across seven esports titles, with plans to expand into additional games as the program continues to grow. Students train and connect in the BCTC Gaming Lounge, an open-access space featuring state-of-the-art gaming PCs and consoles, designed to support both competitive and casual players.

Jacob Hunt, BCTC Engagement and Esports Assistant, emphasized the significance of Frazier’s accomplishment: “Shemar’s championship is a testament to his dedication, competitive skill, and commitment to constant improvement. He has set the bar exceptionally high for our program, and we could not be more proud of what he has achieved. This national title is a defining moment for BCTC Esports and an inspiration to every student who walks into our program.”

Frazier’s historic victory reflects BCTC’s growing leadership in collegiate esports and the college’s ongoing commitment to creating meaningful, modern student engagement opportunities.
