playset behind Winchester campusLexington, KY – Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) announces that the Bluegrass Children Academy (BCA), located at the Winchester-Clark County Campus, will close effective Friday, October 31, 2025.

For 16 years, BCA has provided high-quality childcare services for BCTC students and the local community, playing an important role in supporting student success and educational achievement.

“Thank you for the opportunity to serve our students and our community by offering this warm and inviting space for the last 16 years,” said Becky Mathieu, Owner/Director of Bluegrass Children Academy. “Our partnership has made lifelong memories, and I will always be thankful.”

Sheldon Sharpe, Campus Director, acknowledged the impact of this change, stating, “We are working with those students directly impacted by this closure to provide options for childcare. Childcare is crucial for college students with children because it directly impacts their ability to stay enrolled, succeed academically, and complete their degrees. Access to reliable and affordable care reduces financial burdens and stress, allows for consistent attendance in classes and study time, and supports the well-being of the students and their children.”

Dr. Greg Feeney, BCTC President/CEO, expressed gratitude for the important role BCA has played in the lives of students. “For more than a decade, Bluegrass Children Academy has been a trusted partner in supporting our students and their families. The care and commitment shown by Becky Mathieu and her team have made a significant difference in the ability of our students to pursue their educational goals. As we move forward, BCTC will take this time to reflect on next steps and determine how we can best continue to support the needs of our students.”

BCTC remains committed to exploring current childcare solutions and resources for students to ensure access to education remains possible for all.
