Bluegrass Community and Technical College Appoints Dr. Laura Hunt as Provost and Chief Academic Officer

Laura HuntLEXINGTON, KY — Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) has announced the appointment of Dr. Laura Hunt as the college’s new Provost and Chief Academic Officer, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Hunt brings to BCTC a distinguished record of leadership in academic affairs, student success, accreditation, faculty development, and institutional effectiveness. She currently serves as Provost at Wingate University in Wingate, North Carolina, where she is responsible for oversight of the university’s academic program, including academic success, retention, student services, the registrar, the library, institutional effectiveness, the Honors College, and global education.

In her current role, Dr. Hunt provides leadership for Wingate’s five colleges and a broad portfolio of undergraduate, graduate, and pre-professional programs. Her work has included advancing academic innovation, supporting accreditation and compliance efforts, strengthening faculty development, guiding strategic program growth, and implementing initiatives designed to enhance student retention and success.

Prior to her appointment at Wingate University, Dr. Hunt served in several leadership roles at Georgetown College, including Associate Provost, Assistant Dean for Accreditation, Director of International Programs, and Academic Ombud. In those roles, she contributed significantly to academic planning, advising, retention strategy, accreditation, shared governance, faculty support, and student-centered institutional initiatives.

Dr. Hunt said she is honored to join BCTC and looks forward to supporting the college’s students, faculty, and staff.

Dr. Hunt holds a Ph.D. in Hispanic Studies and a Master of Arts in Hispanic Studies from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from Furman University, where she also completed a concentration in Environmental Studies.

Her academic career also includes service as Professor of Spanish at Georgetown College, as well as faculty appointments at Centre College and Eastern Kentucky University. Across her career, she has demonstrated a sustained commitment to innovation in higher education, student engagement, and academic leadership.

As Provost and Chief Academic Officer, Dr. Hunt will lead BCTC’s academic enterprise and support the college’s continued focus on student-centered learning, workforce alignment, institutional effectiveness, and educational excellence.
