BCTC has Increase in International Students, Countries Represented
Visitors and students at Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) may hear more foreign languages spoken around campus. One hundred thirty-nine students representing a total of 23 countries are part of the BCTC community, the largest international presence the college has had in one semester.
More than half of the students this semester are from Saudi Arabia. Many of the international students are majoring in business or management, and two are students at the North American Racing Academy.
"International students choose BCTC for several reasons," Wendell Sparks, director, International Students and Scholars Services, said. "One of the most often mentioned is small class size, which gives them the opportunity to get to know their instructors. The personal atmosphere at BCTC allows international students a smoother transition and adjustment to academic life in the U.S."
Students from 120 countries have attended BCTC over the years. The college has an active International Students Association that provides opportunities for students to socialize and take part in trips to various locations around the state. It also sponsors the annual International Education Week activities on campus.
