BCTC to offer Pharmacy Technology program in Fall 2016

LEXINGTON, Ky. (June 15, 2016) - In a collaboration with UK Health Care, Bluegrass Community and Technical College (BCTC) is proud to announce the addition of a new Pharmacy Technology program to begin in Fall 2016.

Contacted last summer by the UK Hospital Pharmacy Department, a discussion was held on the potential of starting the Pharmacy Technology program. With a new change in the requirements to take the Pharmacy Technology Certification exam, all candidates for the certification exam will be required to complete an accredited Pharmacy Technology program by the year 2020.

The BCTC Pharmacy Technology Program will begin in the Fall 2016 semester at the Leestown Campus, 164 Opportunity Way, Lexington, KY. Enrollment for the first year will be open to 20 students, and applications are now being accepted.

BCTC has received funding for this initiative through KCTCS-TRAINS, which covers the cost of one full-time faculty member as well as equipment and materials. KCTCS-TRAINS is part of the Kentucky Skills Network. Additionally, UK Health Care will provide funding for a second faculty position and is currently in the process of hiring.
