LEXINGTON, KY (April 18, 2007) Bluegrass Community amp; Technical College (BCTC) , Pine Meadows Health Care, and the Kentucky Department of Labor will announce the Nurse Aid Apprenticeship Program on Friday, April 20, 2007. The information and inaugural apprenticeship registration will be held for Pine Meadows Employees, at Pine Meadows Health Care, 1608 Hill Rise Drive, in Lexington, at 2:00 p.m.
The first healthcare apprenticeship registered in the state, the Nurse Aid Apprenticeship Program is designed to address the current nursing shortage through nurse aid apprenticeship. The program will include peer mentorship, specialty module training, and computer-based instruction that participants can do on their own time. Graduates of the apprenticeship will be awarded a nationally recognized certificate of completion from the Department of Labor for Advanced-Geriatric Specialty. This will entitle them to an increase in wages and possibly serve as a bridge to the next phase of their nursing career pathway.
The plan for the program is for it to be offered statewide through other Kentucky Community and Technical Colleges.
